Johannes Vermeer, girl with an earing
The Hague has its fair share of cultural institutions from galleries to music halls and exhibition houses. A lack of University means that many of the more modern cultural events and nightlife in the city are at a minimum although the summer months in the Scheveningen sea side resort see there fair share of lively activity.
The "Mauritshuis" museum exhibits many paintings by Dutch masters, such as Johannes Vermeer and Rembrandt van Rijn.
For music and dance there is the Lucent Danstheatre home to the internationally acclaimed ‘Nederlands dans theatre’ and the ‘Anton Philipszaal’ home of the ‘Residentie Orkest’, the city's most important symphony orchestra.
