If you are looking at leaving the UK to live abroad, you are not alone. The number of people selling up in Great Britain and investing overseas is increasing year by year. Experts put this down to a number of causes, but the most popular is that British property is overvalued and that the Pound is very strong against other currencies. This means that selling up in the UK offers the opportunity to move into a nicer property in almost any other part of the world. A number of destinations are popular, including:

France

Britons hunting properties to buy in France can easily 'hop across' to mainland Europe via a ferry or through the Channel Tunnel. Many choose to invest in the south of France, as the region enjoys Mediterranean weather and a relaxed pace of life which is perfect for anyone looking to escape the hectic buzz of inner-city Britain. Of course, if you love the buzz and are just looking for a change, Paris is a city of culture, art and style, while Montpellier offers all the bawdy delights of a port town.

Spain

Houses to buy in Spain have always been popular with British people. The days of dodgy timeshares are now thankfully in the past and British money is flooding into all parts of Spain. The interior and north of the country has beautiful countryside while the southern coastline offers some of the warmest weather and most beautiful natural beaches to be found anywhere in Europe. Of course, parts of southern Spain have also been overdeveloped but, again, some people find living among other ex-pats alluring. Property in Portugal, and particularly on the Algarve, is a good choice if you wish to live among other British ex-pats. On the border between Spain and France, property to buy in Andorra is another alternative that is proving popular, if slightly more expensive than other ski destinations.

Hungary

If you are looking to live on the slopes but don't want to splash out on a place in Andorra, Hungary could have just the answer you are looking for. While it may not be the first place to spring to mind when looking at a ski property, the activity is huge in Hungary, with 500,000 out of a population of 10,000,000 skiing regularly. The added bonus is that properties to buy in Hungary are very affordable after living in the UK and you can expect to have some cash left over to spend as you wish, either on a second property as a source of income or on a lavish lifestyle.

Estonia

While the range of houses to buy in Estonia is far smaller than that in France or Spain, there are some real bargains to be found. Like in Hungary, you can pick up a ski property for a lower price than in the top European resorts, with the added bonus that the slopes are far less crowded than those of France and Austria. If you wish to live in a beautiful city, Tallinn is up there with the finest and property developers are queuing up to meet you.
