Eindhoven is a city that has embraced the twentieth century with open arms and a symbol of design and technology in the Netherlands. Strolling around the city visitors will catch glimpses of futuristic modern architecture on every corner such as the Evoluon conference and exhibition centre with its striking flying saucer shape. This sensation of modern life and technological evolution is carried on throughout the city and it is no wonder that one of the biggest attractions in Eindhoven is the Philips light bulb factory. This giant of the electronics industry has transformed its oldest factory dating back to 1891 into a museum and expo of the development of the light bulb. Probably the most popular of museums in Eindhoven is the Van Abbemuseum. This incredible structure designed by Abel Cahen displays a number of varied exhibitions of modern art throughout the year and is definetly worth a visit if only to admire the architecture.
Immortalized in the painting by Van Gogh, De Collse Water Mill is a working mill on the outskirts of the city that contrasts the modern aspect of the city perfectly. Every Saturday morning they operate the corn/flour mill and visitors are able to come and see it in action and then purchase the flour that has been milled! There are a number of different excursions and guided tours around the mill and surrounding areas.
