Set your designs on Amsterdam

Holland hasn’t previously been regarded as a world centre for fashion design excellence, but all that’s about to change thanks to an innovative new urban planning project taking place in Amsterdam’s infamous red-light district. Encouraging young clothes and shoe designers to take up residence in former brothel space, this city-backed initiative is turning heads in more ways than one!

Perhaps it’s not such a strange cohabitation as both fashion and the world’s oldest profession have a shared emphasis on the human body. For many young cash-starved up-and-coming Dutch designers, it’s the opportunity of a lifetime. Shoe designer Roswitha van Rijn admits that she ‘could never afford a studio in the centre without this project’, and it’s a rare chance for a select few.

Like many young designers around the world, a lot of the figures behind Dutch design have attended fashion and textiles courses at the renowned Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London. With the high quality of English education in the Netherlands, it’s not necessary for many of the Dutch students to attend English courses London or English courses Oxford in advance, but for international students from different countries this may be a necessary precursor to a course at Saint Martins. It’s fortunate that a range of comprehensive English courses are available throughout England, and design students have even been known to attend English courses Manchester and English courses Nottingham for the experience of learning English in a native context. So whether you’re looking to make it big in the world of design, or if you’re interesting in learning English for work or travel, take an English course London and ensure that you go places with your English!
